Make
sure your visas, passports, vaccinations & health requirements
are up to date. Take all the documents you require with you including
your travel insurance certificate.
Lock all doors and windows at your property before you leave. It may
sound obvious but remember to cancel your milk and newspaper deliveries
if you have them, if they continue whilst you are away it indicates
to thieves your property is empty.
Never take large quantities of cash - currency on holiday with you
. It is far safer to use travelers cheques & credit cards, they
offer you levels of protection against theft that you do not have
with cash. Make sure you leave any valuable jewelry or possessions
at home, they can make you a target for thieves & muggers abroad.
It is important to remember that most travel insurance policies have
single article limits.
Make a note of the emergency contact numbers to cancel your credit
cards and have them with you at all times in case they are lost or
stolen whilst on holiday. Keep all your valuables, passports &
money on you at all times & never pack these items in checked
in baggage. When you get to your destination check that the tap water
is safe to drink. If you want to be sure to be safe, drink bottled
water and avoid drinks that contain ice.
The health & safety standards abroad may not always be the same
standard as is required in the UK. Remember to never leave your belongings
unattended or with a stranger. This is particularly important at airports,
stations, beaches or places of entertainment and of course unattended
cars. When you are at your hotel, keep your valuables & cash in
a safe deposit box or in the hotel safe if this facility is available.
If you are unfortunate to be the victim of crime whilst abroad it
is important to obtain a police report of the incident if you lose
your possessions or in the event of theft. This documentation is likely
to be required for you to settle your claim with your insurer. Make
sure you make a photocopy of any such documentation before sending
to your insurance company so you have a copy for your records. |
